Marshall Safety Conference!

A joint venture from the Marshall University Research Corporation and Safety Technology Advisory Board, we are welcoming alumni, faculty, and students to learn how important elements of leadership are throughout ones career in the occupational safety and health field.

A pre-conference reception will be taking place Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Arthur Weisberg Family Applied Engineering Complex located at 1676 Third Avenue, Huntington, WV 25703.

The conference will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Don Morris Room, in the Memorial Student Center, 1 John Marshall Drive, Huntington WV, 25755

Safety is an integral part of business operations, and we would like to give our thanks for your strong support of safety culture in companies and industries.

The registration fee for this year's conference is $145.

Meet the Keynotes

Scott McKenna

President, Catamount Counsulting of New York

Scott McKenna is the President of Catamount Consulting. He is a certified instructor with the Mine Safety Health Administration, and an OSHA Certified Construction Trainer. He has over 24 years of experience in the mining and construction industries and is active in multiple organizations. He has authored or contributed to several published articles and lectures on a regular basis to a wide variety of business and safety professionals. The Catamount Team provides expertise in all facets of construction, manufacturing, mining, firearms and all facets of business. Scott is the former head assistant varsity wrestling coach at Warrensburg Central School where he coached for over 20 years. Over his coaching career, the team compiled over 150 wins and five consecutive years of Championship Seasons, as well as qualifying multiple wrestlers for the prestigious New York State Championships. McKenna believes that we are all coaches within the People Business. Regardless of your team, you must have high levels of emotional intelligence to assure everyone around you is coached to their particular level of high performance. Scott’s sport psychology approach to leadership training provides strategies to take you and your team’s performance to the next level.


STACY SPECTOR

Catamount Leadership Super Trainer

Stacy Spector is the primary content and curriculum developer for Catamount Consulting’s Leadership Programs. Stacy was also a practicing attorney in Lake George, New York for over 20 years. She has spent over 15 years, along with her teacher husband and fellow Catamount team member, Jason Spector, in the areas of Empathy and Social Emotional Support in the education world. Stacy now uses the empathy space as a foundation for her work in leadership training for all organizations. Stacy's unique background and experience offers a broad range of value to many individuals and groups in relation to employee engagement, culture building, and mindset mastery. Stacy regularly presents to National Conferences and Organizations on the topic of “Engaging Leadership”. Stacy's mission is to help people develop stronger, more connected, human relationships, in the work environment.


Diana McCoy, MS, RN,CCM

Native of WV and Alumni of Marshall University. 36 years of experience working within the realm of workers' compensation injury management and safety management integration and prevention strategies. As a registered nurse she started in the career path of workers' compensation nurse case management in 1986. While working closely with injured workers and employers she realized a golden opportunity existed in preventing workplace injuries. To give credibility to promoting proactive safety management within the workplace she pursued and earned a master's degree in safety from Marshall University in 1995. As a small business owner from 1992- 2006 in WV, she worked with employers to integrate injury prevention and safety management programs across numerous industries. She has served in various capacities in nurse case management, safety management, quality management and risk management in WV, SC, NC, GA, and FL. She continues to promote and educate employers on the applied processes for basic effective injury and safety management prevention through proactive and retroactive principles. Addressing and including all variables of workers' compensation, safety, quality and risk management she attests to keeping it simple while ongoing measures of the effectiveness is the basis of success.
